Weaning your patrons off floppies
It seems like every week another floppy drive either bites it or bites back. We have some flash drives available for loan, have extension cables to use with our cpu’s (they’re older so the usb ports are in the rear), but students still seem to prefer to carry around all of their work on the same green floppy disk they’ve had since freshman year. To be fair, more and more students (and their parents) come in with flash drives and ask where to plug them in, but is this conversion to flash/jump drives a slow process we just need to buck up and nurture, or should we force them to switch cold turkey?
